School holidays are about to begin and the kids are jumping for joy at the prospect of six weeks of fun – in short more time in front of an electronic device! Max sits focussed on his tablet. Olivia’s watching her favourite TV program and Jake is trying to beat his own score while playing a video game.

Do you remember your childhood – playing outside until Mom called you in for dinner? Today’s kids probably don’t. They spend too much time either in classrooms or with their gadgets. A recent study from King’s College London emphasises on the importance of outdoor play and activity that has a major impact on improving a child’s creativity, memory and overall development.

How about making the most of holiday time to let your child experience the beauty of outdoor play. With so many great places and attractions to explore, a trip to Bali may just be the perfect way to keep the kids entertained and develop new skills. This could be a great opportunity to get out of the usual routine and explore a new place with the whole family. There’s so much to do together that’s hands on and heaps of fun.

Fun Activities to Enjoy School Holidays in Bali

Kids’ attractions and activities in Bali vary from surf, sand and beach activities; cultural activities such as dancing, temple visits, and traditional Balinese lifestyle experiences; adventure activities such as rafting, cycling, bungee jumping and elephant rides; and theme parks such as Bali Bird Park, Splash Water Park, Butterfly Park, etc.

Imagine your kid swinging from one tree to the other like a monkey or zip-lining through the lush green jungle scenery. Bali Treetop Adventure has adventure activities for all age groups. There are different circuits designed with challenges at each level. Be prepared for an exciting day full of adventure activities.

Bali Equestrian Centre
Let your kids have some fun while they learn horse riding. The Bali Equestrian Centre in Canggu is great for a family outing. Kids can enjoy pony rides or play with a wide variety of toys in the play area. They also have a cubby house, swings and a sand pit. Enjoy a glass of wine at the Aravina Restaurant while you watch your kids maker the most of their school holidays.

White water rafting
White water rafting is a great option for families with older kids and teenagers. The white water rapids against a picturesque backdrop of lush tropical rainforests and magnificent rice paddy terraces will get the adrenaline pumping. Bali has two rivers, perfect for rafting – the Ayung River in Gianyar Regency and the Telaga Waja River at the foothills of Mt. Agung in the Karangasem Regency.

Hiking the rice paddies in Ubud
Rice paddies in Ubud are definitely worth a visit to get a glimpse of the local life in the villages. Ask the locals around for the best hiking path or just set out. You can walk as little or much as you want and still have great views.

Visit a temple in Ubud
There are many beautiful temples in Bali worth visiting and this will give you and your family an opportunity to learn more about the Balinese culture and heritage. Some temples worth visiting are the Tanah Lot temple, Elephant Cave in Goa Gajah, Ubud Water Palace, Uluwatu temple and the Ulun Danu Beratan temple.

Watch the Kecak dance
The Kecak Fire Dance is a sight to behold and should not be missed while in Bali. There are many temples where this dance is performed but we recommend watching this at the Uluwatu temple during sunset. As the sun sets over Uluwatu Temple, the men chant as if in a trance, while the performance takes place. “Chark-a, chark-a, chark-a, chark-a” and it goes on.
